First Reconciliation &

First Communion

Our Catholic sacraments are celebrations that involve certain words and actions that point to God’s work in our lives. For a baptized Catholic, reconciliation absolves one from sin and reunites the penitent into friendship with God. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is received in preparation for First Holy Communion.

A child is ready for preparation for Reconciliation and First Communion if:

  • The child is baptized and at least 7 years old;

  • The child attends mass regularly, including holy days of obligation. The child will learn the Eucharist is the source and summit of Christian life;

  • Prayer is experienced in the home. Your child will be learning our traditional Catholic prayers and the Ten Commandments;

  • The child will be supported to attend all sessions for Reconciliation and Communion.

If this is a challenging season due to other family commitments you are invited to register for the Fall/Winter ‘24 session which begins the third week of September. Registration will open mid-July.

Parents are the first and foremost catechists of their children. This means that you are primarily responsible for the faith formation of your child. You have a very important role in your child’s success in the parish program. It is important that you take an active participation in your child’s faith formation and help them realize how important their religious education classes are.

Sacramental preparation uses the Loyola Press - God’s Gift curriculum:

  • Reconciliation prep is six sessions plus one retreat

  • Eucharist prep is eight sessions plus one retreat

  • Lesson activities to be completed at home will be brought home after each session and are expected to be returned at the next session.

An information Parent Meeting will held Saturday, April 27, 4:30-5:15p, Parish Hall, Room 4.

The Spring/Summer preparation session will be held on the following Saturdays, 4:00-5:15p:

Then he took the bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them, saying, ‘This is my body, which will be given for you; do this in memory of me.’ And likewise the cup after they had eaten, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which will be shed for you.’
